Splitwise is a popular app to share costs, and many people know it. Its free plan now limits how many expenses you add each day and shows ads. Currency conversion and charts are in its paid Pro plan. If you want all of that for free, Rata is a free alternative.

Move your groups to Rata

  1. In Splitwise, open a group and export it as a CSV file.
  2. Open Rata, tap New group, then tap the import button at the top.
  3. Pick the file. Rata adds each expense and payment, and checks that the balances match.
  4. Send the new invite link to the people in the group.

Why Rata is free

Rata runs on a free hosting plan, and your device does most of the work, so it costs very little to run. We are fed up with basic tools that charge money for barebone features, so we keep them free. Later, an optional low-cost Private plan will add bill scanning.
